This three-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to deploy and manage a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 infrastructure.The student will learn skills that enable the student to deploy and manage a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 infrastructure as well as guide end users in their use of the product. This course is not intended to provide detailed design skills, but will cover planning skills at a level sufficient to enable decision making for the implementation process.

The audience operates in medium to very large computing environments that use the Windows 2003 Server operating system.

Before attending this course, students must have: 

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2003
• Working knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP and Domain Name System (DNS)
• Working knowledge of Internet Information Services (IIS).
• Knowledge about Course MOC 2552 Designing, Planning, and Managing a Windows SharePoint Services Infrastructure or working knowledge of Windows Sharepoint Services

The module also describes the architecture and design goals of Sharepoint Portal Server and provides an overview of the Sharepoint Portal Server administration model.Deploying Sharepoint Portal Server on a Single ServerThis module explains the prerequisites for installing Sharepoint Portal Server and defines front-end and back-end servers. As well, the module provides an overview of the various deployment scenarios available. The module also describes how to install Sharepoint Portal Server on a small server farm.Configuring Sharepoint Portal Server on a Single ServerThis module describes the server component topology and basic server settings for Sharepoint Portal Server and explains how to create and configure the portal site and virtual server.
